Diploma in Management Consultancy

Awarding Body

This qualification is offered by the Institute of Consulting, which is a wholly owned division of the Chartered Management Institute, which is the awarding body. Further details about the qualification can be obtained by contacting either organisation.

Pass criteria

You will need to demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for each of the units on the syllabus. The assessment is based on:

  • a demonstration that you have understood the materials covered. This will be through completion of the work programme prescribed for each module, which includes various assessments
  • successful application of the learning back at work; this may include specific activities undertaken during the normal course of work, or research and projects that are in addition

These would be summarised together in the submission you make at the completion of the module. Each module specifies what is required in respect of that module.

As an Approved Centre, we arrange the registration and assessment of all the students on the Diploma. Your fees include all materials, attendance at training events and follow up coaching.

The Diploma is best taken as a programme run over some 12 month as part of a group from a single business. Elevation Learning oversees the whole programme and runs it on your premises for a group of 6 – 12 students.

Alternatively, we can run the Diploma as a programme of public courses, but these in practice are more difficult to organise to meet the availability of those who want to participate.

Assessment

You will be assessed on your achievement of the learning outcomes. The assessment programme is designed to test your knowledge and understanding of the whole qualification. To achieve this qualification, candidates must meet all of the learning outcomes.

Any material you generate as part of this qualification may be counted as evidence towards the Certified Management Consultant award offered by the Institute of Consulting.

The assessment of your work towards the Diploma will usually be done at the completion of each respective module and be undertaken by assessors appointed by the IC – although we are qualified to conduct this assessment, we believe that it is better carried out by a third party.

When you have completed the work for a module, you should contact the tutor on that module, who will verify that the work is complete before you send it for assessment. (Note that your tutor will not comment on the quality of your submission – only that it is complete).

When the assessment of the module is complete, you will be informed whether you have passed or whether the work is to be referred back to you as it does not meet the standard required. Note that each module consists of two units, and so if work on a module is referred back to you, it may need rework only in respect of one unit; your Director of Studies will tell you if this is the case.

If work is referred, you should rectify the shortcomings and then re-submit it; you should consult your Director of Studies for guidance on what should be done to upgrade the work.

If you consider that you have not been fairly marked, then there is an Appeals and Complaints procedure that you can follow.

When you have passed all the modules your name will be submitted to the Institute for the award of the Diploma.

Support

You will have a Director of Studies for your Diploma who will oversee your progress through the programme. The Director of Studies leads the first module (the Diploma Introduction) and then will be in contact with you at intervals thereafter as you complete the other modules. There is a different tutor for each of the other modules; the tutor will lead the course when you attend it and then will lead two distance learning webinars afterwards, when they can provide coaching to you as you complete the Diploma work.
