CPD Forum Update - Broadening Horizons

On 8th March 2010 Elevation Learning held a forum at Greenwich for 22 consultants and associates in order to debate a variety of topics of interest.

The day started with Jeremy Webster of Silver Pebble Limited introducing the topic of "Is there a need for Standards in Managment Consulting."  The European Union is due to introduce a directive in 2011 which will affect all professional services practices.  The group had a lively discussion about the relevance of Standards in Management Consulting and the likely impacts on trade within Europe.

The second session was led by Clive Webb of KPMG called "the basis upon which the effectiveness of the learning experience can be delivered".  KPMG is aware that the new generations of graduates joining their organisation have different approaches to learning and in some ways are more demanding (they need reliable information NOW) than previous generations.  The group debated the different attributes and attitudes of todays new consultants and the likely implications for learning and development professionals who need to ensure that a high quality of learning that can be delivered appropriately and applied in the workplace.

Our third presentation came from Daniel Muzio, of Leeds University Business School.  Daniel has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Management Consulting industry and, other professional services sectors.  He led discussions about what the future management consulting professionals will deliver in the future.

The final session was led by Gulnur Muradoglu, Professor of FInance from Cass Business School on the topic of Behavioural Finance.  The basis for the discussion was that despite the rigorous controls, institutes, processes and compliance factors put in place in financial markets, decision that are made by human beings are subjective and based on individuals frames of reference.  She argued that by understanding your own frames of reference and the impact it may have on your decision making, you can change your thought processes and ultimately make better decisions in the future.

Call us if you would like to discuss these topics in more detail.
